What Are UV Window Films?
A UV protection window film is a thin layer applied to the inside or outside of your windows, specifically designed to block UV light from entering. By filtering out UV rays, visible light and heat from the sun, the film significantly reduces fading. It can be applied to your existing windows, so there's no need for costly replacements.
Does UV Blocking Window Film Actually Work?
Yes. The main cause of fading is ultraviolet (UV) light. While temperature, humidity and visible light also contribute, UV rays are responsible for the vast majority of fading. A quality UV window film blocks up to 99.9% of these damaging rays from passing through your windows.
How Do UV Window Films Work?
UV-blocking window films work by filtering Ultraviolet A and B (UVA and UVB) from penetrating through whilst still allowing visible light to pass through.
The solar spectrum emits energy at different wavelengths. UVB and UVA rays, responsible for causing material fading have a wavelength of 280-400 nm. UV window films are made using nanotechnology to filter out these wavelengths, whilst still allowing visible light (400-700mn) to pass through.
This means that UV window films work to protect surfaces from fading frequencies, whilst maintaining the levels of natural sunlight that pass through.
Do UV Window Film Reduce Heat?
UV window films are not designed to reduce heat, rather they are designed to stop fading. If rising indoor temperatures is your primary concern, heat reflective, also know as solar control window films, will likely be a more suitable option. These window films work to filter infrared wavelengths associated with with interior heat build up. We can provide solutions that work to target both UV blocking and infrared blocking.
